Message: On what basis do you say CNN "accurately" determined a star system was necessary? Experience has not supported that view. Of course, we'll never know how CNN might have fared had it kept the "news is the star" way of thinking, but it's hard to imagine CNN doing any worse than it has with its TV "stars" in place. Secondly, I never said consultants were a "major" influence during Ted's last years. However, Ted and Tom Johnson did in fact bring in consultants after the first Gulf War, particularly to work on the international side. Before the Gulf War, Ted had little or nothing to do with consultants or agents. Finally, while Reese may have an axe to grind, that doesn't mean he doesn't have a point to make. He helped launch CNN and was with the network during a very formative time. He knows much about the original plans and he has the advantage of an insider's perspective in watching what has become of CNN since his departure, so you can't discredit all Reese has to say.
