In Reply To: when you're late.
Message: But if you don't get to leave the station until 8pm regularly after doing 6pm live shots two counties away, then leaving a few minutes before 5 on one of those rare days your pkg is done early is not a sin. I always hear "It's not a 9 to 5 business" on days I stay late for one reason or another (which is often, even though I don't complain about it) so I don't expect to hear "Where are you going?" for days I get done early (which is not very often)... especially because I don't get overtime, or even paid an hourly rate for those late hours. They're part of the "You should expect that" bin of hours I throw to the station for free to "prove" I am a hard and dedicated worker, right? Bottom line, when you're done, you're done.. whether it's late or early. You can offer to help someone else, but if no one needs anything, you're off the hook. On the other hand, you should always arrive on time, or even early if you can. Exceptions can be made for people who worked extraordinarily late (like midnight) and have day shift the next day -- and even that should be approved in advance.
