Since it would take about 12 years of study, after your lowly BS degree to become a surgeon,
and it barely takes an AA degree to be a reporter,
Your analogy is not quite a fair comparison is it?
But, your point is valid. Is this working anywhere?
To varying degrees, yes. NWCN for one, is close to it. |

I work at a station with two reporter/photog/editors. And it works! In fact, they often turn better stories than the traditional 2 person crew. Live shots still require another body -- if live is what you need/want. Face it folks, this is the direction we're all heading in. We work for a business! Businesses have to protect their bottom line. If the right people are hired or moved into these one-man-band positions... it CAN work! Our producers edit their own VOs and VBs. Technology is allowing us to streamline what we do. It no longer takes 5 people to do the job of 1. I dont' think the business is where KRON has decided to go --- yet. Specialized reporter/photographer teams still make sense. But so do one-man-bands.
