In Reply To: I was one of SO many that gave Dan a chance to show his stuff. Unfortunately, his stuff involved blowing off a $200,000 a year advertiser by choosing to do a news story on them. Didn't seem to phase him that Emmis wasn't going to get this wad of cash, and then he does the story buried in the 3rd segment. Not the lead story, mind you, he gave it the importance of a lost dog story. I think that part of his brain that came to make my-check-won't-clear decisions, might have got left in Albuquerque. Or how the brilliance of spending over $40,000 in overtime in one month, money he didn't have, and then a month later firing a chief meterologist, graphic artist and production tech so that the bottom line "squared". Perhaps better off at the cube without those kind of decision-makers. What do you think?
Message: Since when are news stories determined by the "wad of cash" you or the station is going lose? Sounds like Dan showed backbone to me. That's the problem with news today, it's all driven by the bottom line. Whether it's in the first or third segment, if it's news, its news. What was the story, who was the advertiser and who was the reporter? A Dan hire?
