Topic Name: Can I Move Down Markets?
Message Name: It depends,,,

In Reply To: Consider: (no order) Which is better to raise a family? Which is closer to family? Which is a better news town? Where is each station competitively in the market? Which station seems better poised for your growth and the station's? How do you, ND, GM stack up on chemistry? What station groups are you considering (or which are you across the street from)? Do these groups have stations in markets you like? This should get you started. In the future, you can tell prospective employers, "I was reluctant at the time (to move), but now I can tell you this was a great jump, and really helped me improve." I'm in a 40-market station, (non-news) and what's on your reel is more important than your stops.
Message: Is the job at the smaller market one with more responsibility (i.e. - is their anchoring involved?). Is the station in the smaller market a better run station that will give you more opportunities to develop your skills? Will you learn more there? Is the station in the smaller market owned by a better company that can give you opportunities in larger market stations they own down the line? Moving smaller won't hurt you at all if the move makes sense.
