Hi there... I'm a morning anchor in a top-40 market. I anchor mornings, love my job, love to tell stories, love the people I work with. Thought everything was just peachy until recently..thus the dilemma: my producer (who's relatively new) is infatuated with my co-anchor. I respect my co-anchor. Quite honestly, I've just laughed it off and rolled my eyes...because that's just how I am. First the producer (still pretty fresh out of college -- aren't they all..), would ask my co-anchor lots of advice and even started a friendly (yes, just friends -- it's more like parent to child -- at least for my co-anchor) relationship out of work. Every morning, they'll moan and groan about work and what stories we might've missed the night before -- while I just do my thing and focus on reading over the show (I'm not a big fan of bitching over things I can't control). So now, this "infatuation" (or whatever you want to call it) is starting to bug me because it's starting to affect the show. I've started to notice over the past few weeks how my co-anchor reads the top story of every show (every half hour!), tosses to all live shots, reads the top of all teases. Hello! I mean, I hate that I even notice this stuff (I'm noticing now because I want to put together a resume tape and most of the show is of my co-anchor!). I refuse to become the read-counting anchor. But please -- this is getting ridiculous. Even our show director has noticed and said something to me, asking if it bothered me. I told him "no." Should it? |

You say:
"First the producer (still pretty fresh out of college -- aren't they all..)"
No, not so much sweetie. Sounds like you are biased towards this producer from the start. Ah yes, youth and market 40... go together hand in hand... right along with the slow spiral down.
It would seem to me that you are jealous of this relationship, and are likely putting that kind of vibe out there.
However, if it is truly affecting the show, then you may have grounds to complain.
But if the numbers haven't moved, or have gone up (??), then you are just a read-counting anchor.
