In Reply To: It is what you make of it...I never said I didn't learn a lot there and it has helped me get where I am today, BUT don't expect that where you are will determine where you go from there. It takes a lot of hard work and a tough skin to make a jump. I know people who have moved to much bigger markets from there and I know people who have taken steps back. Mhilk2 is wrong to say that by starting there (or any small market) you can make a jump to a medium market. That depends on YOU and how you take advantage of the situation and learn. Don't depend on other people to help you out. Just take it as a learning experience. Trust me when I say the look and product are absolutely horrible. If the wind blows the wrong way...you get knocked off the air. Serve your time and get out ASAP...
Message: Small market stations are a combination of two things: what you make of it and leadership at the station. Oak Hill is a decent situation-the new n.d. built a solid reputation, all right...a reputation as the most flatulent person in the business who literally picks his nose and eats the mounds he pulls out of his nose. Really. Ask around. I'm not lying. Don't get me started on his ear wax "snacks" on the anchor desk while in commercial break. By far the most gross person I ever anchored with....hard to concentrate with him eating his own byproducts!
