Go to www.nabetlocal11.org
Click on "contracts" then click on "NBC" Scroll down to section "N" which is the New York newswriters contract.
Then click on the section for wage scales. Divide the weekly number by 5. There's your day rate. And it will be similar elsewhere (in NY elsewhere is Writers Guild, Newspaper Guild, or non-union)

Salaries vary greatly in NYC. Especially as the shops get cheaper and cheaper. Then you look at the cable stations and a writer can make minimum wage.
