While CNN reached critical mass under Ted Turner, it was also Ted who brought in Tom Johnson to groom CNN for sale to a bigtime media buyer, and that was the start of many of the problems facing the network today: confusion over a sense of direction, the arrival of consultants, all kinds of journalistic compromises including the implementation of a star system of on air people, and the promotion of executives who as it turns out didn't really know what they were doing. |

ted has his faults, lord knows.
he NEVER brought anyone to package cnn for sale .
in fact, quite the opposite.
he always wanted to buy someone else.
and he never brought in large numbers of consultants
in fact, cnn could fairly be criticized for NOT bringing in enough outsiders over the years to freshen things up
as for a star system, if you don't like that, you really need to find a new business outside media..whatever all us behind the scenes people might like
