But what about the city and the people? Is the market friendly, do the newsies enjoy each other and are most people civil towards each other? Or are they clawing at each other and cutting each other down to get ahead??
I'm in a market where everyone does that and I'd rather not be a part of this market any longer.
Also, how's life outside of work? The pay? What can a reporter expect to make? Which station has the most experienced, talented crew (only so I can get some good feedback and inspiration)
Lastly, which shop is the best to work? There seems to be openings at all the stations. |

It's no accident KFSN is #1...solid news product, majority of the talent there are solid, no rising stars, but solid talent, and the overall look is tops. The n/d has a good track record for hiring people...many new hires were good hires.
KSEE has all the old timers, some good, some just old people in the business, and have been in the market since the tv was invented. A new n/d with his new hires who seem very green (without naming names, please)and very difficult to watch.
KGPE has a whole new look, a whole new crew...and they are a sinking ship for a reason. New talent isn't making the cut, not making a dent in the market, and morale there is at an all-time low...but if you ask the employees, they would tell you it's been that way. Relatively new n/d who seemed to have cleaned shop, and might need to clean it some more.
As for Fresno itself, well, it's no slice of paradise and not typical of what California is...smack dab in the middle of the state. Farmers and crime rule the city.
Apartments are relatively cheap, reporters make about 40 k and up, depending on the station and your experience. Contract lengths run about 2 years, but lately reporters have been saying they signed 3.
Good luck
