The reason why Dan did well in Albuquerque and not in Portland is simple. When he arrived at the "Q" the people there knew they sucked and wanted to get better. The people in KOIN are still in denial. You cannot get someone to stop drinking who doesn't think he has a problem.

Dan was the single most condescending person I have ever worked for, TV or not.
...and for a news director he's not very intelligent.
