I think the time slot is the biggest killer of this show. As a boxing fan myself (yes I am a female) I have enjoyed the show and think it was done well (much better than the FOX version), the fights couldn't have been edited any better. If it had stayed on Thursday at 7 I think it would have been more successful. |

I had no idea that The Contender wasn't being renewed. That sucks.
On the theory that the sport of boxing isn't necessarily something that everyone wants to see we may want to contact Stallone's accountant for some thoughts. Stallone has made his millions off the sport of boxing and more so because his projects centered on the lives around the boxers. That was his goal with the Contender. Seeing the anxious mothers.. wives and kids of these fighters changes your perspective and makes what appears to be a routine boxing match.. appear more like a do or die life changing showdown.
I think that too many people didn't give this show a chance. Too many people in this country assumed that it was just another pound it out boxing drama. They have no idea what they're missing.
