In Reply To: Dan's demise is mostly Dan's fault. He fired several good people and replaced them with fresh faces from Albq. He had no clue about Portland TV, its history or what might work here. He just started handing out pink slips. He thought new graphics, a catchy slogan and some young talent would bring back viewers. What happened? KOIN's probably pulling the lowest ratings in the station's history in the early evening. Who's to blame for all those bad decisions? Staff? No. The two guys who get most of the blame are now without jobs. That's the way the story should end. I just feel sorry for the good people who lost their jobs at KOIN and the good people who work in the next newsroom Mr. Albuquerque tries to "fix"
Message: What is it with the Albquerque inferiority complex? What's with the bitterness? Why is everyone at KOIN so spiteful about Dan's success at KRQE? Do you think all of his decisions there were welcomed? Do you think he just waved his magic wand and pulled the perennial number three station out of the garbage? Check your facts. Four long, hard years and a lot of trial and error. Landing the number one anchor in NM and having a kick ass Assistant News Director didn't hurt. Oh yeah, and a staff that wanted to work and wanted to win. That helped too.
