In Reply To: How about this news? Lawyers for Wayne Williams and police authorities from DeKalb County, in conjuction with the Fulton County District Attorney, have announced that they will conduct DNA testing on three blood spots recovered from the rear of Wayne Williams' 1970 Chevy station wagon. Two of these blood spots, type-A blood, were linked to the body of 17 year old William Barrett, who's murder was blamed on Wayne Williams. Barrett's case was also among the 10 "pattern cases" used to convict Wayne Williams. But William Barrett never bled, according to formerDeKalb Co. Medical Examiner, Dr. Joseph Burton. Barrett, who died of strangulation. was stabbed post-mortem. But, according to Burton and famed forensic expert, Dr. Michael Baden, it's IMPOSSIBLE for a murder victim to bleed from a post-mortem inflicted wound. The other blood spot found in that station wagon was a type-B spot. But, at the time, there were NO type-B victims on the Police List of "Missing and Murdered." What did they do? They went out and FOUND a type-B vicitm to add to their illogical and crazy list. John Porter, age 29, a recently murdered black man, had type-B blood. So, Porter became the 29th and final victim on "the list."
Message: As a network news executive, I too have watched the Atlanta media ignore this on going "Child Murder Story" and the conviction of Wayne Williams. Especially culpable, the Cox-owned Atlanta Journal and WSB-TV and Radio. These news organizations have failed to serve their readers, viewers and listeners. It's quite amazing that, at least, the Atlanta Journal failed to reference last Monday night's re-presentation of the excellent Court-TV documentary on the Atlanta cases. It featured a former FBI fiber expert admitting that he screwed up in linking fibers from a car to three murder victims, who's deaths were blamed on Wayne Williams. That's some admission. You have to really wonder what motivates Cox and others to stay away from such a story.
