if rain were a factor, they could have moved it indoors and still done it live. maybe not w/ a huge crowd, but it could have been done.
i too felt cheated. what i thought was going to be a "LIVE" performance was nothing more than clips from a concert film. if i wanted that, i could have just thrown in my "Live @ Slane Castle" DVD it's a must-own for any U2 fan.
BTW- U2 rocked on SNL earlier this season, and when the show came up short at the end, the band saved the moment by just playing and playing and playing and playing-- even after the program went off the air.

I was watching GMA Wednesday morning, when Charlie clearly explained it was a performance taped in Chicago, with 20 cameras. He said something like "U2 as you've never seen them before..."
