It's definitely the show's most competitive season to date, but like this year's Kentucky Derby I think the winner will be the best of a marginal lot.
I don't think either Bo or Carrie hold a candle to Kelly Clarkson, who is the reason I started watching this show in the first place. Kelly was incredible. It didn't matter what genre she was singing, she was always dynamite and never missed a note.
Ruben had a great voice but was a bit dull. Clay's voice was a force of nature but he was too sappy.
Though I realize she got on some people's nerves, I was a big Fantasia fan, at least on the show. She had a powerhouse voice and a real personality.
I don't think a single contestant on this season's show is as good as any of the above. Carrie is way too inconsistent and has no versatility. Plus, she's only slightly more intelligent than your average potato peeler. Bo's voice is good, maybe even very good but definitely not great. He also doesn't have much range. I agree that Constantine was the one guy who made you sit up and take notice. Certainly not the best singer, but he had a good voice, was fun and took a lot of risks.
That said, I'm sure Bo will win.
By the way, if you don't think Idol's producers are feeding all their dirty laundry (Scott's domestic abuse, Bo's drug problems) to the press, you're nuts. AI's producers are absolute geniuses when it comes to publicity. |
