I think it's pretty safe to call Kelly Clarkson a really big star. Certainly not an icon (impossible in such a short length of time), but definitley a star.
She's had great success, much more than any other Idol and many hit songs. She's always on the radio. At least the stations I listen to. |

One common thread among all of the contestants seen on American Idol is a lack of stage presence (call it star power or whatever...just the inability to stand out and make an immediate impact with the crowd).
Clarkson can sing (her latest sounds like she is channeling April Lavigne, but it is much better than the so-called hits she has after beating out Justin "Hairdo" Guarini), but is terribly bland. Studdard and Fantasia are forgettable, and what happened to Clay Aiken, huh?
As for the current crop, the same ailment (worse in Savol and Federov, marginal with Bice, Underwood, and Vonzell). Yes, they will get contracts, maybe some hit records. But give them 5 years and who will remember them?
Oh yeah, William Hung might!
