I (and come to think of it probably Joe Murgo too) was briefing WJAC's chief (when he did mornings) for years while I (we) worked at AccuWeather. I'll admit he's got a lot to share about broadcasting, but having a non-met as a chief AFTER dropping AccuWeather is an accident waiting to happen. In extreme situations, the only credible choice in the market is Murgo at WTAJ.
Accu switched to the ABC/Fox but I don't believe it's helping them in the ratings, although at least their chief is a PSU met.
My overall sense of the market from job offers and chatter is that pay is not all that great despite it being market 96. Expect pay more like market 120-140. Morning weather MIGHT grab you $24-30K |

I would say that morning weather in that market has to pay more. I think 30K would be the low figure and up to the 35K range (which makes you a millionaire).
Murgo is smart, although will never admit he ever got a forecast wrong.
TAJ will be #1 for a while b/c Altoona is bigger than JTown and they do better in State College. TAJ has a very old look. They've wanted a new set for years, but corporate has never approved the money.
JAC on the other hand hired some really young people and to be honest they were bad. They've been hurt by that, in the same sense TAJ lost some good reporters in the past 2 years and have hired kids straight from college.
ABC 23 ... not worth anyone's time.
