Well, the attitude for the above two posts is just one of the many reasons local TV news will not be around in the form you know. Check out the obits for local in about 3 years.
Look at the whole picture, kids. Now that everybody is on a par with similar equipment, slashed budgets, pressure to deliver a rating rather than a story, and ownership groups demanding 50% profit returns from a business where fewer and fewer viewers are participating...well, it's not a rosy picture.
In any given market, there's only going to be room for the most profitable operations to continue. This means the top two...everybody else will either be a one-man reading band or just not there at all.
I don't like anything I see on local news anymore. It's BORING...stupid...has no relevance to my life...delivered by reporters who aren't even attractive let alone intelligent...driven by scare tactics that even the most unsophisticated viewer knows to be bs. Come on...it all boils down to NONSTORYTELLERS being in charge. It's all sales driven, and there isn't a salesperson in the world who knows a good story from a bad one. They only know that money comes in and there you are.
Go ahead and defend a dying art. Tell me your station is great and your life is going to be wonderful. They said the same thing when buggy whips were dying as well.
