I'm old school, and I DO do the kind of reporting the esteemed and literate Mr. Boot is talking about.
But...who DOES that anymore? I'll tell ya who: the producers!
Way too many reporters rely on them for their info, but, they have no choice; the reporter in so many cases, is locked-down in live-shot position, unable to move because they need to be "on".
Insanity? Yes. Many reporters that we look to for the latest, have to be fed all their updates; they know it and resent it, and...that's the system, a system that cherishes "late breaking" and "live" above all.
Hemmer could function very well in this world (and, doing it old school, too; I know. I've seen him do it).
Again...I wish him well. No, nice guys rarely finish first; but still, ya keep hoping...
