In Reply To: Agree with previous poster.. there are no rules anymore. When I got into the business, I was also told to work my way up in market size and by mid 30's I could go top 10. Now I see mid 20's getting those jobs. But no rules anymore. I left business, came back, went top 10. If you kick butt, you'll get the job. Are younger journalists getting the jobs? You bet. But that doesn't mean you can't too...
Message: That's right! There is no hard and fast rule that says you have to be 20 years old to get started in this business. That's absurd!! I know many very successful journalists who started when they were 28 or 30. Some started even later. Life is an adventure. Live your dreams, whether you are 20, 30, 40 or beyond...if this business is what you want, you can do it. If that means starting in a small market--get started--no one cares where you started...just take that first step and then hit the ground running!
