First, I'm going to check with a labor attorney in my state--but didn't want to waste the money if the answer is obvious.
I have experience working both on air and behind the scenes...my last several gigs off air. I have a non-compete, which reads just like I was an on air person.
Question is, can I go across the street, on the air...not doing my previous job in any way? By the way, my contract does not give my job title, or specific responsibilities.
I know anchors/reporters all the time will work behind the scenes during their non-compete, so what about the other way around? |

and talk to an attorney.
Without reading your contract, and the non-compete portion it is impossible to truly offer you advice.
I've seen anchors ride an assignment desk to ride out non-competes, while others have sat on the beach.
It really is a matter of terms of your contract--what your contract says you do, and what your non-compete says.
In one top 10 market, as a producer, I could not take any TV industry job--including sales within that market--but I negotiated to be allowed to take management jobs in other markets.
Not to be too cliche--but the devil is in the details.
