Does it make a difference in the eyes of management? Absolutely. They love being able to tell others how many awards the news won, and how it can help sales, and trump the competititors.
Management loves awards for their own egos. Does it make a difference as far as you're concerned? No. They say congrats and you feel great for that day. Tomorrow it's "what have you done for me lately, replacable peon cog."
I've won nearly a dozen awards and after they say congrats and tell their corporate bosses how they've gotten such great work out of their subordinates, they don't give a damn anymore.
