If your liveshots all look dark, you'd hope that the producer or director should be on top of that. It's "tough love," but I've pulled the plug on a few liveshots that looked like crap, and that pretty much sent the message to the photographer. "Sorry, your shot's too dark--use lights next time." That also usually gets the attention of your ND, if he/she is watching, to find out why the shot died. Talk with your producer to see what a team effort might do to change their attitude about lighting.
