In Reply To: in weather will be more of a help than anchoring. The trick is to know your subject inside and out. Knowledge = Comfort.. Comfort = Improved delivery. Try getting rid of a script.. work from notes. Notes will give you the bullet points you need.. and will force you to relay them in a style that is your own. A viewer can sense sincerity, which translates to trust in what you report. If that fails, make believe your sitting in a bar and telling your buds the story over a couple of Buds.
Message: I've always told green reporters.. "Keep It Simple". Don't try to explain Life and the World as we Know it. A couple of quick thoughts, then toss to your package. If you're doing a straight live, breaking news or VO/SOT, etc. the same rules apply. Keep a few bullet points on your notebook if you need a crutch, but by all means know what you're talking about. And try to keep it conversational. Don't talk like a cop when you're covering crime/fires, etc. Ask yourself, "What are three-four most important points of this story."
