Several years ago, I was a former radio reporter who was hired as a TV assignment editor. I got the chance to go to back to radio in a totally different market. I was under a non-compete that was written as if I were on-air, even though I was told from the day I was hired I wouldn't be considered for on-air hiring.
I had to get an attorney to break that contract, even though I wasn't on air, the new job wasn't what I was doing, and it was a different market. The good news is I was able to break the contract, but it cost me. It was the right choice for me. Good luck.
