Working out a non-compete backwards |

First, I'm going to check with a labor attorney in my state--but didn't want to waste the money if the answer is obvious.
I have experience working both on air and behind the scenes...my last several gigs off air. I have a non-compete, which reads just like I was an on air person.
Question is, can I go across the street, on the air...not doing my previous job in any way? By the way, my contract does not give my job title, or specific responsibilities.
I know anchors/reporters all the time will work behind the scenes during their non-compete, so what about the other way around?
