WSB-TV joined the media lawsuit to gain release of police and court records on the Clifford Jones Case. But, after it aired a dozen or so stories on the new, exculpatory evidence, resulting in parents of the victims demanding a reopening of all the cases, WSB-TV caved to political pressure and suspended it's coverage. The Atlanta Journal, also party to the lawsuit, amazingly, chose not to publish ANYTHING from these files on Jones' murder in which a suspect, other than Wayne Williams was named. |

Monica Kaufman, the doyenne of Atlanta television news, has, since 1982, led her station's cheering for Wayne Williams' conviction. Kaufman, on several occasions, has lobbied her management to squelch stories which call into question the quality of the police investigation into the "Missing and Murdered Cases" and police and judicial motivation. Kaufman once publically accused ABC News of "trying to ruin the reputations" of the victims, because ABC reported on an FBI theory that the murders involved some of the victims selling sexual favors.
In 1987, Kaufman lashed out against her own station for airing reports which cast further doubt on the conviction of Wayne Williams. Kaufman helped convince her bosses to suspend the coverage. Those stories, strangly enough, were based on official police and court transcripts which WSB-TV sued to obtain, under the Freedom of Information Act. Monica Kaufman is an obstructionist for the truth.
