If you enjoy the outdoors AT ALL, you'll love WNC. Asheville kicks butt for live music and has a great art scene.
Some of the best hiking and mtn biking trails in the country are there, heard of the Appalacian Trail? Road biking is even better, Lance goes there to train on the roads around Grandfather mountain...
Drawback on Asheville are the hordes of "trustifarians" that infest the area. You know... Trust fund kids that look (and smell) like they are dirt poor, until they break out the $600 treo phone and the keys to the LandRover Defender 90 that pops bought them.

I was in my 30??s when I worked in Asheville and I??m older now and it??s still boring. Yes I know all about the outdoor activity but this just in ????Some people don??t ride bikes or hike??.
Take away that and you don??t have much. As far as live music and culture?? it can??t hold a candle to California.
By the way, Santa Clarita is very nice. Went there last Christmas and loved it. CaliGeorgia you should stay where you are. Just get a better paying job.
