Message: He might have failed in the oil biz, but he hit the jackpot with the media. He became President just at the time when the prss rolled over and died. Instead of seeking the truth and reporting it, journalists today are afraid to challenge power. Say what you want about Dan Rather, but he had the balls to go toe to toe with Presidents. Bush can say just about anything and the press never corrects him. A classic case was his last press conference, where he first explained that social security bonds were just I.O.U.'s and then later claimed that those worried about his private accounts could invest in bonds that were backed by the full faith of the U.S. government. Nobody in the press asked him a simple question: which is it? If the SS bonds are worthless I.O.U.'s, then the bonds in the private accounts would be worthless too. Or if the bonds are good, why do we need private accounts at all? The press has fallen and can't get up. If you want real journalism, look at the internet and blogs. It's the last hope, really. TV news is just a joke, where people sit around a table and offer their "opinions" or interview shows where a democrat and republican yell at each other. It's sad.
