Sure...you may be paying "below market" mortgages for the next 2-5 years.
But...BAM!!! (sorry, Emeril).
Wait'll that sucker re-adjusts...that 30-year loan you THOUGHT you had at 5.3% is suddenly re-amortized for 25-years at whatever the interest rate is at this time (and rates are going up.)
Face it: Unless you're an anchor long-time reporter, Cali is just too expensive for shooters/editors/photogs to buy a home.
Yeah, you might be able to buy a 2BR condo in a less-than-desirable location (Hello Bayview-Hunters Point...East Oakland...eastern part of Venice...Logan Heights.) But then you risk muggings/break-ins/burglaries every day.
An earlier poster made an excellent point: Are you willing to put-up your family in less-than-ideal living conditions simply because YOU get to work in California?
If you ARE willing, then you are a very selfish person.
Which come to think of it, describes just about every reporter in California: Putting self career over personal life...or worse yet, the lives of their family members.
If you're young and single, then go for it! |
