Message: Well adam & dr. drew, a lot of news directors are very threatened by reporters who "have a clue." I've seen them go on psychological rampages to get rid of these veterans because they don't like back talk. They're afraid of anyone perceived as knowing as much as they do. And, as far as staying in contact with the producer, newsroom managers are also known to carry this to extremes. I remember working for one guy whose policy was that whenever a producer changed his/her mind about a story--i.e., whether or not to go live, do a package, etc.--it was the reporter's responsibility to call in to find out about that change. How's that for effective communication?
