In Reply To: National Press Club just released a statement concerning the behavior of police on a reporter and photographer in Prince George County, MD. Can anyone elaborate?
Message: Investigative reporter Andrea McCarren was checking into a tip that some high-ranking county officials were using a county car inappropriately. McCarren and photographer Pete Hakel were following one of the cars in question one morning when about 9 cop cars descended upon them and three cops pulled out their guns. During the incident, McCarren apparently suffered an injury to her arm/shoulder and has filed a complaint with the Prince Georges County Police. She and Hakel caught some of the confrontation on video. The police were clearly over the line with 9 cars and three guns drawn. The police dept.'s explanation is that the officer driving the county car believed he was being followed, and therefore threatened. Thus, all the cop cars to haul McCarren and Hakel out of the car. Yes, McCarren is a face here, having anchored the morning show for a while. The police no doubt recognized her. Overkill, I say, on the police's part.
