I think producers are trying to take too much control over every aspect of the news. When will they ever learn that stories are not made sitting around a table talking about it. Stories are made in the field, and very often it's the unexpected, unplanned element that's the difference between another ho-hum story and a great one. Journalism is a process of discovery, and producers need to start trusting their people in the field to find what's out there. Failure to show that trust leads only to alienation on the part of the guys in the trenches who are out there every day and KNOW what's going on.
