....it doesn't matter if mgmgt. keeps AFTRA happy. What matters is "perception" and keeping it's "audience" happy.
Remember, perception is 90 percent of what we do in broadcast news. (That's why I have a morals clause in my contract) And, if the perception in Philly comes across as KYW isn't "union friendly". . .well, that could damage all they've built, and the momentum they're experiencing.
REMEMBER(Mr. Colleran): Philly NEVER forgets (also see: Denenberg pretzel story, Eagles/Teamsters striking side-by-side, Santa snowball-fight, Jerry Pennacoli, Jim O'brien, etc.)
Philly is a pro-labor town that would not take kindly to scabs or a business that allows it to get to that point. And, isn't KYW trying to make "inroads" with it's urban demo???
I had KYW on my list of stations I'd like to work for --but, I may be scratching it off-- for now.

You can say what ever you want. Bottom line, AFTRA does not run KYW. Management just can't allow other people to decide how KYW is managed.
