So where are the skills that we have in demand? Aside from PR. Also how do you market them and yourself? |

If your situation is typical, regardless of your specific newsroom job, you probably come in contact with representatives from charitable organizations from time to time, either having them on your air or helping them promote some kind of event. Without compromising your position with your news director, start asking questions...about organization, internal needs. What you will find, in many cases, are niches your multi-tasking skills could accommodate. What do non-profits generally do? They present ideas, energize volunteers, and solicit funds. Could you help design and implement a campaign? Can you write effectively? Can you work with a wide variety of people? Is there something that you really give a shit about? Most of these outfits are looking for energy, ideas, leadership, and stewardship. If you can see solutions and communicate them you can work. Good luck.
