I worked as a PA for network for two years...I loved my job and wanted to report, but never got the chance to make a tape. So, I paid a company to do it. Two years later I'm a TV reporter getting ready for my next jump. My advice...get a tape made by any means necessary. Paying for the service sucks, but it's a means to an end. If you live in the NYC area I have a friend that does it at a great price. |

I've been working as an AP in a medium market for about a year now. I'm dying to get out there and report, but it's not gonna happen at this station. I'll definitely have to go smaller. Getting a tape together when you can't actually get out there and report is hard, I'll admit but you can find a way. After morning shows I've shot a few standups in the studio. And when a photog has a few extra minutes we go somewhere to shoot standups in the field. Also, if you're at a place where you can't really report, see if any reporters are willing to let you take one of their packages and either revoice it or rewrite it all together. It's taking me what seems like forever to get mine done, because it's got to be a good time for a ton of other people to help you out! You can't do it alone!
