In Reply To: 3 hour dinners are appalling and demoralizing for the rest of the staff. One poster said that anchors get a 3-hour dinner break because they work evening hours and have families. What the heck are you talking about? What about the line producer or EP of the 10 or 11pm who works evenings and has families? Those people are doomed to eat a quicj meal at their desk while continuing to work. Anchors should be NO different. It's disgusting behavior by the people who make the most money and who SHOULD take a newsroom leadership role but don't.
Message: Let's face it, anchors are more important to the success of a station's financial picture than line producers or EP's (hence, they're PAID a lot more). What the hell do you think a television station is, some sort of socialist enterprise where everybody gets exactly the same treatment? You don't think show producers have better perks than associate producers? There's a heirarcy here, as in virtually any other business, and chances are that YOU have better perks than the guy sitting next to you. In any organization, the people who contribute the most to its success have the best perks. You name me another key station employee (and station manager or news directors are the only ones on a par with, or above anchors) who works nights. I suppose you're pissed because the GM gets a station credit card and takes two hour lunches, or leaves early for a round of golf. It's this simple: anchors merit more perks than other newsroom employees. Again, get over it, shut up and do your job.
