In Reply To: all of you who are in a TV sports department around this country. Does anyone in this country get more than three minutes for sports in any newscast MON thru FRI? At six.. how many of you don't even have a sportscast anymore? I think local sports is fading and I think.. unless there's a big event in town.. News Directors are trying to diminish the importance of sports in a newscast.
Message: It is true, expect people all over the country are missing the point. Local sports, is just as important as local news. Viewers crave information about the local teams. And by local I mean High School, College, even youth all star groups. It brings a sense of community involvement. In addition it involves our children. If you put someone's child on TV, even just playing in a mud puddle. People will tune in to watch. Forget about the national stuff on a day to day basis, there are hundreds of story angles to take on local sports. It's worked in place that put forth the effort. Small markets thrive on local sports by treating it in a "Major League" way.
