Channel 3 in Charleston/Huntington is a huge money maker, especially for its size. It was a star station long before Emmis got its hands on it.
They were doing the split anchor presentation back in the 1950's.
The story goes that Reuven Frank, the great visionary NBC News Director was doing a tour....saw the split anchor arrangement with one in Charleston and the other in Huntington connected by a terrestrial microwave...and said "gee, this is a good idea". He went back to New York, as the story goes, and invented the Huntley Brinkley News. Cool, huh?
