Message: I'm a former news director that decided to get out of the business when I was having my first child at age 40. The decision became much easier during my first trimester when I literally had to sleep on my office floor overnight a few times because of major breaking news. An "average" workweek was 60 plus hours, not counting time answering phone calls at home at night and weekends. This is tough on anyone's family life, but especially difficult for a mom who wants to be there for her kids. There are female news directors who do have kids (certainly more than are listed on this post)... some do it by having a live-in nanny, or multiple nannies. It's just a question of priorities... it's a shame that it's so difficult to do both, but when a news director job requires round-the-clock attention (at least at times), it's almost impossible unless your husband is a stay-at-home dad or you decide to have someone else raise your kids much of the time.
