I've been working In a market ranked between 25 and 30 about two years out of school. I'm already producing and it seems people here really like my work habits. I treat everyone fairly and don't take offense. I think it takes a certain type of personality to make it in this biz and the willingness to take a lot of abuse-- but I find that by doing my job and doing it well that I'm not the one getting abused-- it's the ones who compalin about how their not appriciated but the fact is their just not doing a good job. I just hope it's worth all the weeends i've given up and the 12am mornings. Even if it's not we all learn from experience. |

When is it time to leave the business? Hard to say. I left two years ago - I knew it was time when I got a headache each day on the way to work - and all I wanted to do when I got home - was go to bed. I went to work on a project that involved news - but not the pressure of ratings, etc. It was a nice break and I learned a lot about myself and news ... but when I had the chance to go back in the field - I jumped on it. Yes, it breaks your heart at times ... yes you may work with assholes and the hours and money aren't the greatest (hard to keep plugging away when your peers in other fields rake in the BIG bucks) ... but I don't know of any other job where you aren't chained to a desk - no two days are ever the same ... and you meet so many different people. I intend to stick with it - for a bit longer - it seems to be in my blood!
