They are actually called per diems. WGN seems to have the most, 4 at my last count. CBS 2, NBC 5 and Fox have a couple. WLS has 1 only. It can be a good way to get your foot in the door at a broadcast station, but most per diems in Chicago have been working there for years and are just trying to hang on to their jobs. Turnover for staff jobs almost never happens. Per diem jobs open up once in a blue moon. The bottomline: Chi town is hard market to break in to because the pay is so good. Most per diems have gotten their jobs because they know management or have a great agent. A local agent, in fact, helps a lot. Hope this helps.
