you might have a point. it's definatly a problem being so passive..
but, i put the question up on the board to see if anyone had tips about how to be more assertive in the newsroom... |

If you don't agree with something...say it!
That's the first step of many. Always stand up for yourself when being asked to do "too much." And by that I mean being run over by everyone when it comes to hours, weekends, overnights, whatever.
If you are a reporter and are getting slammed for your writing, defend what you've written or improve upon the skills you already have. Same with live shots, etc. Ask how you can improve, defend what you've given 100% of yourself to.
It's a start.
