chicago has gone freelance/per diem crazy and it's horrible...They will freelance you to death and never give you any benefits (health insurance, disability) etc. In addition, freelancing has become so prevalent in Chicago that market veteran reporters of 20 years or more are having to freelance..can't get staff gigs....
It's a sad situation.... |

Freelancing in New York has become the same way. While it seems to be a backdoor into the market, it takes awhile to get a staff gig. Some of the stations aren't even filling positions just using "perma-lancers". It's a money thing.
