If the film was good there would be no debate. If this was a story of a 17 year old kid who produced a film that was winning the praise of critics, then I wouldn't care that Mr. Williams and Mr. Smilovitz were friends.
But the film is what it is; a project of a high school student. Go and watch it, it's onthe nightly news site. Judge for yourself.
I watched it after the story aired because I was thinking it had to be good. What I saw on line offended me not only as a working journalist but as someone who loves documentaries. As a film it was so bad that my first thought was that Bernie must have given Brian some money in order to air this tribute to his son. I mean, I know that didn't happened, but it is so bad that the thought actually went thru my mind.
To really understand how unethical Williams' actions were you have to watch the film. |

I watched the film in its entirety and was touched by it. Several of my co-workers were, too.
The sound was difficult to understand at times, but that's why there were subtitles.
The stories of the grandparents, especially the grandmother, were gut-wrenching. And the end was terribly poignant.
