have a discussion with your News Director with the Human Resources director also in the room. This is for your protection and the station.
Your ND needs to know, only because you've been assigned to a story like this. If you hadn't been assigned this story, there'd be no reason to say anything.
Your HR Director needs to be there because that is a protection for you so your ND doesn't have a shit-fit. It basically keeps everyone honest. And of course, you tell those two you want everything kept confidential.
One more more, document everything. |

Do the damn story and keep you mouth shut.
I'm a former smoker. I did tons of smoking stories about how bad it was and then puffed away.
I've done stories about drinking and driving. Done that in my youth.
Done stories about risky sex. Done that a couple times.
Come on people. Get over yourselves.
And keep your mouth shut to management!! As soon as they hear your "conflict" you're branded as a whiner and complainer and expendeble!
