In Reply To: Think as a viewer for just a second. It was a heart-warming story on Holocaust Rememberance Day. I watched it as a viewer and that is what I thought. I used to work with one of the Smilovitz brothers and recognized him, but most of the American population does not, and probably saw the story for what it was... a way to honor people and not forget an atrocity.
Message: you're right that most of Americans did not recognize the connection. And that is my entire problem. I did not recognize the connection, but now that someone has pointed it out I'm kind of pissed. Would this story have made the air if Williams was not friends with Smilovitz? The answer is no. If you doubt that call the assingment desk of any local news station. "My son just produced a video about his grand parents." You'd have five seconds before you were hung up or transfered to the voice mail of a reporter who had the day off.
