I will never again watch NBC Nightly News. What Brian Williams did last night was just as unethical as Rathergate.
The Broadcast ended with a story of a 17 year old kid who produced a documentary. Actually, it's hard to cal it a documentary. The truth is the kid was in a class at a very rich private high school in Detroit. All the students in the class were required to produce their own short film. This kid did it on his Grandparents who survived the holocaust. For a teenager the documentary was good. The teacher should give it an A.
But that is where the praise should stop. This was not the work of a great filmaker. This was not the product of Ken Burns or Steven Spielberg (although Williams in his script compared the kid to Spielberg.) In truth the film, which wasn't a film at all because it was shot on tape with a home video camera, is at best a neat family movie...nothing more.
So why did it make national news. Why did a news organization like NBC devote 2 minutes of air time to this kids project? The answer is Brian Williams' best friend happens to be this kids father.
Bernie Smilovitz was the sportscaster at WCBS when Brian was the lead anchor.
Mr. Williams apparently thought that there was nothing else more important going on in the world last night... "so sure, I can give me buddy's son a plug.'
Mr. Williams you show is called NBC Nightly News, not Nightly Nepotism. You just lost a former loyal viewer |

You're right... I was startled that NBC gave so much time and attention to this kid... obviously based on his 'connections.'
But Brian's done a great job in recent months.
I wouldn't toss-out the baby with the bathwater on this.
