I don't think you need to share with your news director anything about your recovery.
First, it's a personal health issue. Second, if you tell this person and he/she doesn't fully comprehend the complexsity of the issue or is insensitive to it, than what have you gained.
Go do the story. Add some personal compassion. Go on your way.
Also, don't tell anyone else about the problem. |

I believe you have the right not to tell anyone. Isn't that the whole idea behind 12 steps? it's an anonymous way to get clean so that you can get on with your life?
If a reporter is assigned a story on infidelity does he need to admit he had an affair?
If it is on illegal gambling do you admit to having placed a bet with a booky?
Or what if you are gay and in the closet, you are assigned a story on gay closetted professionals in the workplace. Do you need to come out to do the story?
No, No and No.
Do your job. Report fairly and accurately. Don't feel like you have to spill your whole life everytime you get an assignemnt.
What's next? "Sorry sir I can't do a story on agriculture because I once had salad made from lettuce that I feel was picked by an exploited Guatamalan mother of 12 so I will need to decline".
